Instant Pleasure 101

This program explores the idea that anyone—no matter their experience level—can be a chef. The word "chef" often comes with certain expectations—knowing how to balance flavors, pair ingredients, and present food beautifully. While those skills are important, cooking itself is something deeply rooted in our shared human history. Long before professional kitchens and fine dining, cooking was an essential skill for survival. From the earliest humans gathering food and cooking over an open fire, to today’s home cooks, food preparation has always been about nourishment, creativity, and connection.
Home cooking is not just about following a recipe; it's about returning to the basics. It's about reconnecting with the instincts that have been passed down through generations—the ability to gather, prepare, and enjoy food in ways that speak to our own tastes. In this spirit, we’re kicking off the program with a dish that everyone can cook well: instant ramen.
Simple, quick, and satisfying, instant ramen is a dish that almost everyone has made at some point. It’s accessible, customizable, and represents the joy of cooking without the need for complex techniques. For this program, we’ve gathered 48 varieties of ramen from across Japan, each with its own unique flavor profile. Whether it's a classic shoyu broth or a more adventurous curry, these ramen options remind us that cooking is something anyone can do, no matter how basic or simple the ingredients may seem. It’s a chance to light up your stove, experiment, and rediscover the ancient joy of preparing food for yourself.
