Geoffrey Chaucer got it wrong.

The first known link between Valentine’s Day and romantic love dates back to 1382, in Chaucer’s poem The Parlement of Foules, which was inspired by the belief that birds started mating in mid-February.

Here’s a list of bird species that do not begin mating in February: goldfinches, swallows, and sparrows; autumn breeders such as quails and emus; winter breeders like owls and eagles; year-round breeders like pigeons and doves; tropical birds like macaws and toucans; seabirds like puffins and albatrosses; and unique breeders such as crossbills and emperor penguins, just to name a few.

But thanks to it’s commercialization during the Victorian era, all partners are going to expect gifts in the middle of February. What better way to show your appreciation for your loved ones than by giving a gift that symbolizes a love that will never die?

Encased in hand-polished crystal clear acrylic resin, each cube holds a preserved leaf, seed, or flower, offering a meditative glimpse into nature’s beauty. In this case, a rose.
