Porcelain Pendant - Arc M (Close)
Born in 1980 in Saga Prefecture, Hirotaka Tobimatsu is a Tokyo-based ceramic artist specializing in porcelain lighting. Inspired by the milk glass lanterns of the Taisho and early Showa periods, he reimagines their soft, nostalgic glow in porcelain, a material once widely used but largely abandoned with the rise of fluorescent lighting.
Tobimatsu Toki explores the quiet beauty of everyday objects through porcelain, translating the soft, nostalgic glow of early 20th-century milk glass into contemporary forms. Each piece combines meticulous casting with careful attention to detail. All lamps are handmade by Hirotaka Tobimatsu.
Defined by soft edges and sleek, sculpted sides, the piece is adorned with a series of carved fins, or shinogi, that converge toward the lower center. Viewed from below, the flowing rhythm of these ridges guides the eye upward, creating a light that draws you in and invites quiet contemplation.
