Furosaki Folding Screen Weave
The furosaki byōbu is a small two-panel folding screen used in Japanese tea ceremonies. It defines the host’s workspace, frames tea utensils, and provides practical functions like shielding from drafts or hiding the preparation area.
Its design reflects wabi-sabi principles, emphasizing simplicity and quiet elegance. Often decorated with seasonal motifs or calligraphy, it enhances the ceremony’s serene atmosphere without overpowering the space.
Made from natural materials like wood or bamboo frames and washi paper or silk panels, the screen harmonizes with the tea room and honors the ritual’s spiritual and aesthetic values.
