Keeping our cool this summer sourcing

We’re grateful to be sitting under the cool, constant breeze of the AC right now. For some reason, we can’t seem to remember sourcing during the summer, and it might be more than just a coincidence that we plan our escape from the intense Japanese summer each year—or perhaps it’s simply getting hotter every year.
That being said, we’ve returned with more than a few unique pieces and an impressive sock tan. Rudimentary design is the focus of this shipment, as we ventured beyond the city centers and further into rural towns. One of the main reasons for this shift is the increasing number of reproductions flooding the market, often disguised as vintage, which we’ve encountered more frequently in recent months.
So here we are, back to appreciating the everyday. The culture of Mingei, as explored by Soetsu Yanagi, delves into the profound beauty and value of everyday objects crafted by anonymous artisans. If you ever need a refresher on folk art, a visit to the Soetsu Yanagi house in Tokyo is recommended—but perhaps wait for the cool autumn breeze.
We’re delighted to welcome you back to our showroom to view our latest shipment. Our operational hours will resume on Thursday, 22 August 2024. Drop by for an ice-cold tea or coffee, and we’ll be happy to show you around.
Operational Hours:
