Torben Orskov Multiplex Shelf by Kristian Solmer Vedel
Kristian Solmer Vedel was a Danish designer born in 1923. He studied under renowned designer Kaare Klint at the Furniture Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and also attended the School of Arts and Crafts. His approach to design was shaped by both Scandinavian functionalism and the influence of the Bauhaus movement.
In 1957, Vedel designed the Multiplex for Torben Ørskov & Co. Crafted from lightweight and durable molded plywood, the piece is notable for its clean geometric lines and elegant curves. Highly versatile in form and function, the Multiplex features interchangeable components that slot into a central structure.
Each unit is secured by mounting bolts, allowing for modular assembly or independent use, reflecting Vedel’s thoughtful and adaptable design philosophy.
