The Long View: An ongoing conversation on creativity and change.

Why do certain ideas stay with us while others disappear? Where does inspiration come from? Can creativity be taught, or only cultivated? Do the objects we collect reveal something about who we are, or who we hope to become? How much of what we believe is shaped by experience, and how much by the stories we tell ourselves? These are the kinds of questions that rarely arrive with straightforward answers. Yet in asking them, we often gain a clearer understanding of our work, our values and the lives we are trying to build.

The Long View is a series of dialogues centred on creativity and the enduring questions that accompany a life of making, collecting and observing. Built on personal experience and open-ended discussion, the programme recognises that no two people encounter an idea in quite the same way. Each conversation becomes a space where different interpretations, observations and lived experiences can coexist, offering a broader understanding of how we make sense of the world around us.This initiative is presented in partnership with Leonard Wee, a practitioner and educator whose work moves between art, design and teaching. A recipient of the DesignSingapore Scholarship, Leonard trained as a graphic designer before dedicating his practice to painting. His work is guided by the belief that meaningful imagery emerges through the meeting of intellect, emotion and skill. Painting serves as a means through which he examines personal experience, memory and the subjects that occupy his attention. His work has been exhibited in Singapore, the Philippines and New York, including presentations at Gajah Gallery, the School of Visual Arts Chelsea Gallery and 856 Gallery.Alongside his studio practice, Leonard maintains an active role in education. His experience across both art and design informs his approach to teaching, and he currently lectures at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Raffles Design Institute. Through The Long View, Leonard brings a perspective shaped by years of making, teaching and reflection, helping to open conversations that are as much about the creative process as they are about the lives that surround it.

For the upcoming dialogue titled "Living with Art & Design", we will explore how others engage with both disciplines as a lifestyle. We will also look specifically at these engagements through the principles of proportion and scale, and examine how meaning is created when both principles are applied. The hope is to provide a new perspective for the audience to engage with Art and Design in their own lives. The Long View.
